Obwohl ich kein (Welt)Verbesserer bin, möchte ich Sie jedoch auf einen kleinen Schreibfehler hinweisen, werter Gast:

Die NHL fühlt sich nicht so ganz wohl wegen der steigenden Anzahl an Gehirnerschütterungen (der Spieler!), oftmals verbunden mit einem monatelangen Krankenstand.

Deshalb gibt's in Zukunft ein entschiedenes Du, Du!, wenn bei einem Check der Kontakt auf den Kopf des Gegenspielers hinzielt:

Es gibt eine 2 min-Strafe.

(Okay, es kann auch noch eine Sperre folgen ...).


Auch die Regeln für den Check in die Bande (Boarding) wurden verschärft.

"[...] The NHL is targeting hits to the head again, broadening the landmark ban that is only one year old.

After outlawing only shots to the head that came from the blindside, the NHL board of governors approved a pair of rule changes on Tuesday that Commissioner Gary Bettman hopes will decrease the number of concussions suffered by players.

Players will now face a minor penalty for any hit that involves primary contact to the head and shots that target an opponent's head and make it the principal point of contact. The original wording to Rule 48 applied only to hits that came from the lateral or blindside. Those words have been eliminated.

This ban, effective immediately, applied to hits anywhere on the ice and from any direction.

"I do think the NHL has been well ahead of it than everyone else," said Brendan Shanahan, the league's vice president in charge of player safety. "We took the step to put in Rule 48 this year. As the season was going along, we felt that the players were responding well to it and that the game could handle going another step further." [...]

The board also gave the OK to changes to Rule 41, which deals with boarding. Nach zahlreichen Verletzungen in den letzten Jahren, neuen Forschungsergebnissen und dem Tod von Wade Belak, Rick Rypien und Derek Boogaard, alle noch 2011 als Enforcer in der NHL tätig, verhängt der zuständige Vizepräsident Brendan Shanahan seit Beginn dieser Saison vermehrt Sperren. Bis jetzt wurden 9 Spieler für insgesamt 31 Spiele (ab 6. Okt., Vorbereitungsspiele nicht mitgezählt) gesperrt. Die Spieler haben dadurch einen Verdienstentgang von US$ 701'000 (gehen an den Notfallfonds der Spielergewerkschaft).

The NHL was rocked this summer by the deaths of Wade Belak, Rick Rypien and Derek Boogaard, all who played in the 2010-11 season. While each death involved unique circumstances, all three players found a role in the league in large part because of their willingness to fight. [...]"

Auch im Gehirn von Flügelstürmer Rick Martin wurde die degenerative Gehirnkrankheit CTE (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy) nachgewiesen.

Martin starb im März an einem Herzanfall am Steuer seines Wagens.

Er hatte sein Gehirn der Forschung vermacht. Martin war kein Enforcer (bestritt aber trotzdem 14 Boxkämpfe im Laufe seiner Karriere), er spielte allerdings ohne Helm, bis er 1977 nach einem Check mit dem Kopf auf dem Eis aufschlug und daraufhin einen Krampfanfall bekam. Er beendete seine Karriere vorzeitig 1981 nach 11 Jahren in der NHL wegen gesundheitlichen Problemen.

Dr. Ann McKee, who studied Martin’s brain, had previously found CTE in the brains of former NHL tough guys Bob Probert and Reggie Fleming. CTE can only be diagnosed after death.

Martin’s case was considered Stage 2 — with Stage 4 being the most severe — a stage unlikely to significantly affect his cognitive abilities or behavior. But researchers said it was significant because he did not fight and his only known concussion occurred in 1977 when his head hit the ice while not wearing a helmet, causing immediate convulsions. Im Spiel gegen Boston (5. Dez.) bekam er einige Checks, darunter auch einen Ellenbogen ins Gesicht von Stürmer David Krejci, ab.

Es gibt aktuell keinen Zeitplan für eine Rückkehr von Crosby in die Mannschaft.

For months, he was bothered by headaches, a sensitivity to bright light and loud noises and dizziness. Those symptoms didn't fully vanish until just before training camp started in mid-September.

After sitting out 61 games -- 41 of them last season --the Stanley Cup winner and Olympic gold medalist made a dazzling 2-goal, 2-assist return against the Islanders on Nov. 21, and he had 2 goals and 12 points in eight games. Despite being hit multiple times, and throwing multiple hits, he had no problems in his first seven games back.

Crosby believes an elbow from the Bruins' David Krejci in front of the Penguins' bench during Boston's 3-1 victory at Consol Energy Center on Dec. 5 may have been the cause of his latest problem, though he doesn't know for sure. A mid-ice collision with teammate Chris Kunitz during the third period of the same game was jarring, but was knee-to-knee.

"I know I got hit in the head there (by Krejci), but I felt like I was pretty good after that," Crosby said. "I didn't feel like it was anything too major. But if I had to look at one hit, yeah."

Crosby didn't feel right the next day, although he skated lightly. He practiced as usual on Wednesday and talked afterward to reporters about playing against the Flyers the following night. But, after he developed a headache, he unexpectedly did not accompany the Penguins on a two-game weekend road trip.
